Dieter Rams on good design.
Rams strikes a common chord in his criteria
for what he believes to be good design, and that is to recognize an objects
true purpose, and to be thorough but restrained developing the features to most
efficiently and holistically fulfill the needs and desires for which the object
was ideated. Respect for the product’s potential and the balance needed to
reach that potential within constraints, are key in all aspects of product
design, which Rams influenced so greatly. Attention to detail should not make a product busy, striving for beauty should not make the product anything other than what it is.
